Robert Indiana: Peace Paintings included fifteen of the artist's recent Peace paintings, as well as ten 18-inch stainless steel Number sculptures and a 72-inch polychrome aluminum LOVE sculpture. The artist’s statement “Peace” was published in the catalogue for the exhibition:
By a chronological fluke I missed both interludes of non-peacefulness: Korea and Viet Nam, only to be in New York on September 11 on my way to my exhibit in France [opening] on the twelfth when peace was dramatically ended once more. Peace ever elusive!
