Robert Indiana: New Paintings and Sculpture, held at the Galerie Denise René, New York, marked the debut of Indiana's 24- and 48-inch-square Decade: Autoportrait paintings, two of his recent ART paintings, and a new, large-scale painting LOVE, The Louisiana Purchase Variation (later renamed The Great American LOVE) (1972). Also in the exhibition are his recently completed polychrome aluminum sculptures, an 84-inch-high ART, an 18-inch-high ART, a 72-inch-high LOVE, and two 12-inch-high ONE sculptures. A serigraph, Four Panel LOVE, was published by Galerie Denise René, New York, in an edition of seventy-five.
